BOTANICA: Forms Unfolding
Large Sculptural forms inspired by the botanical world, emerge and unfold in this new exhibition by Bay Area Ceramicist Nan Howe. These hand-built vessels reflect the quiet architecture of growth and transformation. Their curving shapes and carved textures reveal traces of process, honoring irregularity and imperfection as expressions of beauty and elegance. They evoke forms discovered rather than designed, as if shaped by wind, water, and time. At its core, this exhibition is also a meditation on timing. Like late bloomers - both botanical and human - these forms speak to a rhythm of becoming that is guided not by societal expectations, but by an internal and organic unfolding. BOTANICA celebrates the silent strength of finding one's own unique form in one's own season.
Nan Howe Bio
I am a late bloomer and sstill unfolding! I discovered clay after marriage, motherhood and a rewarding career. Clay intrigued me with its connection to nature, its primal link to our ancient past, and molecular proccesses rooted in chemistry and physics. I was drawn to its malleability, invitation to explore and infinite possibilities for self-expression. Clay has its own language and speaks to me through my handss. It remembers where and how it has been tounched. It demands resspect, rewards patience, and keeps me honest and humble. My work reflects an ongoing conversation with this remarkable material; a proces of litening, responding and discovery.
